Probably my favourite science book of the many I have read over the years is "the Big Bang Never Happened" by Eric Lerner. (available from the BirdTribes Bazaar bookshop here)

He shows that the Big Bang ia a theory that is so full of holes it would have fallen over long ago if it had not been propped up by organisations that found it useful to their agenda of controlling the masses.

Lerner shows that historically the more repressive societies favour cosmologies that have beginnings and endings whilst the less repressive societies favour cosmologies that have no such limits.

They focus far more on the science than the philosophical and societal implications, but I think if you have not come across Plasma Cosmology before it will be a powerful revelation.

Personally I believe that when all the sacred cows are dead and buried we will walk again in the Beautiful Wild Garden of Infinite Mystery.
